Service & Repairs

Custom Design

This process begins with an idea, perhaps inspired by an image in a magazine
ad, on a website, seen on an individual, or created by your own vision.
Chapman Jewelers will navigate you through the process of custom design by
a brief interview and using design composition. An estimate is provided
first, and then if need be, a rendering of the design. We offer 2 methods of
custom making jewelry; carving of a wax model and hand fabrication. The
details of the design will dictate the process we use. Our master craftsperson
will hand make your piece with the highest level of skill set and detail. This
process takes approximately 4-6 weeks.

Jewelry Repair

Our experienced goldsmiths will use the most appropriate and most cost efficient method of repairing your piece of jewelry. Estimates are given for your approval prior to proceeding with the work. Repairs take approximately 2 weeks, but certain pieces can be "rushed" to accommodate a special occasion. We specialize and offer the following, but are not limited to, types of repairs listed below.
  • Ring sizing
  • Prong re-tipping/ replacement
  • Tightening of stones
  • Jewelry restoration
  • Gemstone and diamond replacement, mounting, and assembly
  • Chain lengthening/shortening
  • Chain solder
  • Clasp replacement
  • Earring repair, including post repair
  • Refurbishing; clean, polish, re-rhodium plating

Appraisals

We offer three types of appraisals at Chapman Jewelers.
  • Insurance Replacement Value: This type of appraisal is most common and is used for insurance purposes. This should be attached to your homeowner's or renter's policy to ensure proper coverage in the event of a loss, theft, or damage. This value states the amount it would cost to replace an item with a brand new piece of similar quality. (We recommend that your appraisal be updated periodically. Check annually with your jeweler or insurance agent about the necessity of updating your appraisal. This will ensure that your insurance policy remains current, and in the event of a loss you will be covered).
  • Fair Market Value: Is used to determine a fair selling price for an item between a willing seller and a willing buyer. It takes into account the current condition of the item, demographic location, seller's due diligence, methods of divestment, and economic trends.
  • Estate Value: Is used when determining the value for the settlement of an estate. It establishes a baseline cash equivalency value of any given jewelry item that most accurately represents a real monetary exchange for the purpose of paying estate taxes as a component to one's total estate holdings. This appraisal will place the lowest value on an item.

All appraisals are done by an in-house graduate gemologist. Estimates are given prior to service.
